INTRODUCTION TO THE DEPARTMENT OF AUTOMATION

1. General Introduction

The Department of Automation is one of the core training units of the Faculty of Electrical and Electronic Engineering, Ho Chi Minh City University of Industry and Trade. With the mission of training high-quality technical human resources, the department focuses on researching and applying advanced control technologies, embedded systems, intelligent robots, and digital transformation in industrial production.

In the context of the Industrial Revolution 4.0, the Department of Automation continuously innovates its teaching methods, linking theory with practice, aiming to provide society with engineers who possess creative thinking and high adaptability.

2. Faculty

Our department is proud to have a dedicated, experienced, and highly qualified faculty, 100% of our faculty members hold Master's degrees or higher, including many PhDs trained at prestigious universities both domestically and internationally.

In addition to teaching, our faculty actively participate in scientific research projects, technology transfer to businesses, and guide students to achieve numerous high awards in robot, PLC, and IoT innovation competitions.

3. Training Program

The training program for the Control and Automation Engineering Technology major is built according to quality accreditation standards, ensuring modernity and integration. Students are equipped with a comprehensive body of knowledge from basic to advanced levels:

• Foundational knowledge: Electrical circuits, power electronics, microcontroller technology, sensors and measurement.

• Advanced skills: PLC programming (Siemens, Omron, Mitsubishi...), SCADA system control, intelligent control systems, industrial robots.

• Modern technology: AI applications in control, industrial IoT (IIoT), and Flexible Manufacturing Systems (FMS).

In particular, practical training accounts for more than 50% of the curriculum, helping students master professional skills right at the school.

The Automation Department is equipped with modern laboratories and workshops, closely simulating real-world production in factories:

 • PLC and Industrial Communication Networks Lab.

• Microcontroller and Embedded Systems Lab.

• Process Control and Sensor Measurement Lab.

• PLC and Robotics Programming Competition – where students can unleash their creativity and implement practical engineering projects.

Graduates from the Automation Department are always sought after by businesses with a very high employment rate. Typical job positions include:

• Design & Operations Engineer: Working in manufacturing plants (Food, Pharmaceuticals, Automotive, Electronics...).

• System Programming Engineer: Designing and implementing automation and robot control solutions for businesses.

• Technical Consultant: Working for multinational corporations in electrical and automation equipment such as Siemens, Schneider, Mitsubishi, ABB...

• Research & Development (R&D): Researching solutions for optimizing production and smart factories.
